On Sunday, starting pitcher Walker Buehler reflected on the previous nine seasons of his career with the Los Angeles Dodgers, shortly after agreeing to a one-year, $21.05 million contract with the Boston Red Sox.

“I don’t have the words to really describe what the past 9 plus years have meant to me. I will always take great pride in the fact I wore this jersey and we brought 2 MOTHER F** KING championships back to this city. See yall around,” Walker Buehler captioned his Instagram post.

Hollywood actor Mark Wahlberg, a passionate Red Sox fan hailing from Dorchester, one of Boston’s largest neighborhoods, left three comments on Buehler’s post, all a series of emojis. Looking at Wahlberg’s comments, it’s safe to say the actor seems quite excited about his favorite team’s acquisition of the two-time World Series champion.

The way the 2024 season ended was as perfect a send-off as could be for Walker Buehler, who ended his stint in Los Angeles by lifting the World Series for the second time. Fittingly, it was Buehler himself who clinched the title for his team, pitching a perfect 1-2-3 ninth inning as a make-shift closer in Game 5 against the New York Yankees.

AL executive claims Walker Buehler could turn out to be “a pricey gamble”

Though Mark Wahlberg seems to be sold on the Red Sox’s latest addition to the pitching department, it appears someone much more involved in the daily goings-on of the sport is still on the fence about the decision to bring Buehler to Boston.

Speaking to MLB insider Mark Feinsand, an anonymous AL executive described Buehler as an expensive option:

“Walker Buehler is a pricey gamble, but if they think that they are better at pitching development than the Dodgers, it makes sense,” the executive claimed.

Though Buehler did end the season on a great note and his know-how of dealing with the pressure of big games is unquestionable, the 2024 regular season was one to forget for the 30-year-old. He finished with a 1-6 record and a 5.38 ERA, while also dealing with numerous injury issues.
