Raptors’ RJ Barrett misses practice, won’t travel with team to Boston

Leading scorer RJ Barrett missed practice on Monday and will not travel with the team ahead of its Tuesday road tilt with the Boston Celtics due to illness, Sportsnet’s Michael Grange reported.

The Mississauga, Ont., native also missed two games earlier in December for the same reason. In 27 games played, Barrett is pacing the Raptors with 23.4 points per game to go with 6.8 rebounds and 6.2 assists. All of which are career highs.

Meanwhile, guards Davion Mitchell (illness) and Gradey Dick (hamstring), and centre Bruno Fernando (toe) are all questionable against the Celtics. Guard Immanuel Quickley remains out as well as he recovers from an elbow injury.

Toronto, which sits 14th in the Eastern Conference at 7-25, is riding a 10-game losing streak ahead of its matchup with the reigning NBA champions on New Year’s Eve.

It has a quick turnaround following the Boston game with a three-game homestand beginning against the Brooklyn Nets on Wednesday.
