LONDONDERRY – Running to support the Pediatric Otolaryngology Department at Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Kerry Momnie, 40, of Londonderry, recently finished her second Boston Marathon with a time of 5:19:06.
“The most challenging part of the race was the heat,” said Momnie. “It was a lot hotter than the weather I had trained in all winter, it was a shock to the system. I made sure to pack extra electrolytes to combat the heat and made sure to hydrate in the days before.”
With temperatures in the low-70s, she said the energy from the crowd was “incredible” along the entire course.
“Making that final turn onto Boylston (Street) and hearing the roar of the crowd is unlike anything else,” said Momnie.
As a member of Team Eye and Ear, Momnie ran for her son, who has Down Syndrome and is a patient at Massachusetts Eye and Ear.
With three young children at home, Momnie needed an outlet and began running when she was in her mid-30s.
“I ran my first marathon in 2018 and am one race away from completing all six of the World Marathon Majors” she said. “I will run the Tokyo Marathon next March as my final race. I have run all races in support of charity, which has been incredibly rewarding.”
