CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – Boston College lacrosse got back on track with a convincing 20-7 win over Virginia Tech in Fish Field House on Sunday afternoon. BC improves to 6-1 and 2-0 in the league, while the Hokies fall to 4-2 and 1-1.
Four players registered hat tricks, while Cassidy Weeks scored a season-high four goals. Belle Smith stuffed the box score with four goals, two ground balls, two caused turnovers, and a draw control.
Kayla Martello and Rachel Clark found the back of the net three times. Andrea Reynolds notched two assists. Hunter Roman was one of three players with two caused turnovers, with Shea Baker and B. Smith joining in on the action with two CTs.
The Hokies got off to an early 2-0 start in the first quarter, scoring within the first five minutes of the contest. Martello started a run of three straight goals that led to a 3-2 advantage and eventually a 3-2 first-quarter edge.
Virginia Tech struck first in the second to tie up the contest. BC responded in a big way as a 7-0 run gave the hosts a commanding lead. B. Smith led the charge with three goals during the surge, and Clark found the back of the net twice. BC went into the half with a 12-4 advantage after outscoring VT 9-2 in the period.
Boston College’s offense continued its upward trend, scoring four times in the third and fourth periods, holding a double-digit lead after another 7-0 surge capped off by Baker. Molly Driscoll also netted a score to give BC a 20-6 cushion.
Abbey Herod led the team with three draw controls and Shea Dolce made four saves with four ground balls.
BC returns to action on Wednesday when it hosts Boston U in the Battle of Commonwealth Ave at 4 p.m. in Fish Field House.
