Kohl’s will be closing its store in Stoughton, Mass. in January, the department store chain confirmed.

The closure at 501 Technology Center Dr. will go into effect Jan. 18, a Kohl’s spokesperson told Boston.com.

Kohl’s notified state officials that 77 employees would be affected by the store’s closing.

Kohl’s associates were offered the option to apply for positions at other local stores, the spokesman said. Kohl’s has 25 locations in the state, according to their website.

“We encourage our customers to visit other area Kohl’s locations in East Walpole and Hingham,” the spokesperson said. “Kohl’s regularly evaluates its store portfolio to ensure our fleet of stores is providing the best experience for our customers.”

The news of the Stoughton store closure comes after Chief Executive Officer Tom Kingsbury announced last month plans to step down, effective Jan. 15.
