Blake Lively is caught in a toxic relationship in romantic drama “It Ends With Us,” based on Colleen Hoover’s popular 2016 book.
Calling all BookTok lovers: the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel “It Ends With Us” is officially out in theaters.
The book, which blew up on TikTok in 2022, has made it to the big screen as “It Ends With Us” officially premiered on Aug. 9.
The film stars Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni as love interests who live in Boston. However, even though the location is an important aspect in the story, it turns out the film wasn’t actually filmed in Beantown.
“It Ends With Us” was actually filmed last year in a few other East Coast cities. Here’s where the movie was shot.
Where was ‘It Ends With Us’ filmed?
The film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel “It Ends With Us” is the latest film to take place in Boston. However, the movie was actually filmed around the New York area.
The movie was filmed in 2023 in locations around the New York metropolitan area, including Jersey City and Hoboken, New Jersey.
Justin Baldoni, who serves as the film’s director in addition to starring in it, told Time Out magazine that he did not want to use sets for the film.
“When I see a movie, I can usually tell when something or somewhere has been fabricated and it takes me out of the story,” Baldoni said “For ‘It Ends With Us,’ there are no sets built on a soundstage and no blue screen anywhere.”
Despite not being filmed in Boston, the movie does feature shots of some of the city’s skyline, like the Zakim and Longfellow bridges.
What is ‘It Ends With Us’ about?
“It Ends With Us” is a romance novel about a woman named Lily Bloom who escapes a childhood plagued by abuse to move to Boston and open a flower shop.
While there, she meets neurosurgeon Ryle Kincaid and the two start a relationship. The book and film follow Bloom and Kincaid’s tumultuous relationship and issues of domestic violence.
The novel was originally released in 2016 but became popular during the pandemic, when it went viral on TikTok.
‘It Ends With Us’ stars local actress Jenny Slate
Though the Boston-based movie wasn’t actually filmed in the city, one of the stars of “It Ends With Us” brings her hometown ties to the big screen.
Jenny Slate, who plays Bloom’s best friend Allysa Kincaid, is originally from Milton and currently lives in Dartmouth.
Slate’s husband, Ben Shattuck, owns Davoll’s General Store in Dartmouth, one of the oldest general stores in the United States.
