Boston businesses and shoppers can take advantage of a winter Open Newbury Street for the very first time.
“Open Newbury: Holiday Stroll” will occur on Sunday, Dec. 1 and Sunday, Dec. 8. A rain/weather date is set for Sunday, Dec. 15.
The event is meant “to encourage holiday shopping in the Back Bay,” Mayor Michelle Wu said in a May press release.
During the event, Newbury Street businesses are encouraged to set up shop outdoors with various activities and activations.
“I am thrilled to present the holiday edition of Open Newbury to Back Bay this winter for all of our residents to enjoy,” Wu said in a November press release. “The tradition of Open Newbury that we enjoy during the summer brings so much opportunity for community gathering and economic growth for our small businesses. I am looking forward to seeing the city gather together again for Open Newbury this holiday season.”
The route will be the same mile-long, eight-block stretch as the summer Open Newbury series, which started in 2016.
Newbury Street will be car-free from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Berkeley Street to Massachusetts Avenue on Dec. 1 and 8.
As a result, parking will be restricted on Newbury Street and adjacent streets starting at 6 a.m., and signs will be posted enforcing the restrictions.
People can drive and park, use public transportation or bike to shop on Newbury Street during Open Newbury.
