Travelers can save money when booking flights and hotels on Dec. 3.
Boston travelers booking airfare for holiday trips this month and vacations next year can save money on Travel Deal Tuesday, taking place Dec. 3.
Travel Deal Tuesday offers more deals than Black Friday and Cyber Monday, according to Hayley Berg, lead economist at Hopper.
Hopper, which has an office in Boston, founded Travel Deal Tuesday in 2017 when the company discovered that the Tuesday after Thanksgiving was the best day to book travel.
“We see about double the deals available on Travel Deal Tuesday that we see on Black Friday and about 84 percent more deals than on Cyber Monday. So it really is the best day for finding the biggest volume of deals to different destinations and different types of trips,” Berg said.
Last year, Hopper detected an average of 10 deals per second on Travel Deal Tuesday, which is 42 percent more than usual, according to the company.
“If you haven’t booked your Christmas trip, it’s actually a really great day to book last-minute Christmas or December holiday travel,” Berg said.
Boston travelers can book roundtrip airfare to Florida for less than $90, according to Hopper, and roundtrip airfare to Paris and London for less than $400.
Airlines participating in Travel Deal Tuesday this year include American Airlines, British Airways, and Fiji Airways, Berg said. Thousands of hotels will also participate, she said.
“We’re going to be offering up to 50 percent off hotel stays in a range of domestic and international destinations,” Berg said. “Over 10,000 properties are going to be on sale.”
For example, travelers will enjoy 50 percent off all hotels in Santo Domingo, Puerto Rico; 40 percent off all hotels in Grand Cayman and Tampa; and 30 percent off all hotels in Nashville, San Diego, Paris, Sydney, and Bali.
“Some hotels will offer lower prices on Travel Deal Tuesday itself. What we do at Hopper is add a discount on top of whatever price is available,” Berg said. “That just sweetens the deal.”
Berg recommends travelers think about where they’d like to travel ahead of Tuesday so they are prepared to book. She said folks can set up price monitoring on interested trips and receive notifications.
“I think there’s nothing worse than seeing a great price on Travel Deal Tuesday but not being 100 percent sure you’re ready to book it,” Berg said. “So I really encourage travelers to plan ahead.”
