BOSTON – Police have arrested a Chelsea woman on charges that she set fires inside three East Boston stores. Genesis Hurtado, 26, faced a judge Monday afternoon on six arson-related charges.

Police first began investigating after suspicious fires happened at Marshall’s and CVS in East Boston on Saturday. Boston Police put out a flyer seeking a suspect.

On Monday, officers responded to the AutoZone in Liberty Plaza for a report of a fire. They were told that the suspect fled the area.

Suspect found with lighter in purse

They found Hurtado a short distance away with a lighter in her purse. Court documents state that an employee saw Hurtado inside the AutoZone and then saw carseat covers on fire.

Hurtado allegedly admitted to investigators that she set all three fires.
