Boston legends visit Westfield for Starfires’ Celtics Night

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB/WSHM) – Boston sports legends came to western Mass to meet fans and catch some local baseball for Celtics Night over at the Westfield Starfires game on Friday.

The Westfield Starfires traded in their blue and yellow jerseys for something green, part of the team’s first ever Celtics night at Bullens Field.

When the Celtics brought the NBA Championship banner back to Boston last month, the Westfield Starfires knew they wanted to do something big to celebrate the C’s historic win.

That’s when they decided to design a white and green Celtics-inspired jersey for their players to wear on Friday, and what better way to unveil these jerseys than with a couple of NBA champions?

Two-time NBA champion and 1981 NBA Finals MVP Cedric Maxwell and 2008 NBA Champion Brian Scalabrine were in the house meeting fans before throwing the first pitch.

Fans and players were excited to meet some of the Celtics greats.

“It was definitely really awesome to meet them. We’re huge Celtics fans out there. We come out from all the way here in Westfield just to see these guys. It’s really awesome,” fan Matt Croke said.
