The Boston Deli, 6231 E. 61st St., will be closed through July 14 for remodeling.
Chef and owner Ken Schafer said the restaurant’s restrooms will be remodeled, and other plans include adding a bar area and additional seating.
The Boston Deli marked its 30th anniversary in 2022 and during that time has consistently earned high ratings from Tulsa World restaurant critics. The restaurant is known for its monthly Chef’s Specials, its use of Hasty Bake charcoal grills to make the majority of its menu and its casually elegant atmosphere. The dinner will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, July 6, and tickets are $150, which includes wine pairings for each course. Seating is limited and tickets must be purchased in advance by sending a text to 918-850-2579.
The inspiration for this meal, prepared by chefs and owners Joel Bein and Amanda Simcoe, comes from the moment in 1790, when Thomas Jefferson brought together Alexander Hamilton and James Madison, two Founding Fathers at loggerheads over what direction this new country should follow, for an evening of fine food and wine, as well as some serious, if diplomatic discussions.
It is a moment in history that has been immortalized in the song “The Room Where It Happened” from the musical “Hamilton” — a song performed by the character of Aaron Burr, someone who was not invited to dinner, and who resented being excluded from the discussions, as well as the dinner.
Bein and Simcoe will attempt to recreate the menu for this evening, including wines that are in keeping with Jefferson’s original choices.
