A United Airline flight from Houston to Boston was diverted to Washington Dulles International Airport on Sunday afternoon after a passenger experienced a “medical issue” mid-air.
“United flight UA2477 (Houston – Boston), diverted to Washington-Dulles after a customer experienced a medical issue. The aircraft is currently undergoing a deep clean and we are working to get customers on their way to Boston soon,” a spokesperson said in a statement to Times Now. “No passengers or crew needed medical assistance upon arrival.”
The Boeing 737-800, carrying 155 passengers and six crew members, departed from George Bush Intercontinental Airport around 9:30 a.m. and landed at Dulles International Airport at approximately 1:30 p.m.
Audio released on RadarBox.com captured the pilot describing the situation as “quite bad.”
“I talked to the crew and it sounds like it’s quite bad back there, it’s still really bad. The crew is vomiting, and passengers all around are asking for masks,” the pilot can be heard telling the air traffic control.
“With this kind of being a biohazard I think we need to probably get this plane on the ground ASAP,” the pilot adds.
A spokesperson for Dulles International Airport confirmed to FOX Business that no passengers or crew members were taken to the hospital following the flight’s arrival.
“No passengers or crew were treated or transported when the flight arrived at Dulles International Airport,” the spokesperson said.
The specifics of the “biohazard” situation remain unclear. In a similar incident last month, around 30 passengers fell ill with flu-like symptoms on a United Airlines Boeing 737 Max from Canada to Texas, requiring the aircraft to be thoroughly cleaned before it could be returned to service.
