Austrian Airlines launches nonstop flights from Vienna to Boston, expanding its intercontinental network to 18 destinations with up to six weekly flights.

Austrian Airlines has inaugurated its first-ever year-round nonstop flight from Vienna to Boston, offering up to six weekly flights to this East Coast city. This new route is serviced by a Boeing 767, accommodating 211 passengers.

Before the inaugural flight’s departure, Austrian Airlines CCO Michael Trestl and Vienna Airport’s Joint CEO and COO Julian Jäger greeted passengers at the gate, introducing them to the new route. The celebration featured a traditional ribbon-cutting ceremony, delectable culinary treats, and a quick sketch artist who captured the memorable moment. On board the Boeing 767, passengers received special goodies from Michael Trestl to mark the occasion.

Michael Trestl, Chief Commercial Officer of Austrian Airlines, is enthusiastic about the strategic route expansion: “We are delighted to add an extremely attractive destination to our Austrian Airlines destination portfolio with Boston. By expanding our long-haul network, we are offering our passengers a diverse travel program, increasing our presence in the international market and strengthening our hub in Vienna.” He continues: “Boston is a fascinating destination for leisure and business travelers with its renowned educational institutions, including Harvard and MIT, its business affiliations and the incomparable charm of the city. It will also make it even easier for visitors from the USA to travel to Vienna in the future.”

With the inclusion of Boston, Austrian Airlines’ intercontinental network now spans 18 destinations. The Vienna to Boston route, covering approximately 6,500 kilometers, has a flight duration of around 9 hours. Flights are scheduled on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and every alternate Tuesday. Departure from Vienna is at 10:40 a.m., arriving in Boston at 1:50 p.m. local time, with the return flight leaving Boston at 5:10 p.m. and arriving in Vienna at 7:25 a.m. local time.

By adding Boston to its roster, Austrian Airlines expands its intercontinental reach, providing passengers in 2024 with access to over 125 global travel destinations.

Julian Jäger, Joint CEO and COO of Vienna Airport, is pleased about the successful cooperation  between Austrian Airlines and Vienna Airport and emphasizes: “The USA is the most important long haul market for Vienna Airport. With the new direct connection to Boston, our home carrier Austrian  Airlines is expanding its North America offering. Boston, one of the oldest cities in the USA, offers  numerous cultural and historical highlights. The modernization and expansion of the Austrian Airlines  long-haul fleet to eleven Boeing 787 Dreamliners increases the attractiveness of North American  travel and gives Vienna’s economy and tourism an important boost at the beginning of summer.”

Norbert Kettner, Managing Director of Vienna Tourist Board, is also delighted about the strengthened  connection to the USA: “As a medium-sized capital of a small country, Vienna can succeed in tourism  and overall economically only through its connection to international transport routes. In 2024,  Vienna will continue to be a globally connected city – the new Boston flight of our strategic partner  Austrian Airlines provides a strong boost for both leisure tourism and the conference sector. Vienna’s  tourism is once again as international as it was before the pandemic. The USA, which is Vienna’s  most important long-distance market and was already above its pre-pandemic level in 2023, played  a major role in this.”
