Boston’s wintertime beauty is unmatched, according to a recent study.

Premier Inn, the largest hotel chain in the United Kingdom, recently released a study naming Boston the most beautiful winter city in the world.

“We all love seeing cities across the globe transform into winter wonderlands around Christmastime,” wrote Premier in the study.  “From twinkling lights and snow-covered streets to famous landmarks made even more enchanting, winter brings some of the world’s most iconic destinations to life.”

Premier Inn showed 100 global participants a series of images of 72 worldwide cities experiencing winter and used eye-tracking technology to measure which images held their gaze the longest. The cities that people spent the longest time looking at “were the most eye-catching, and therefore the most beautiful,” according to the study.

Boston’s wintery images earned 2.66 seconds of average viewing time, beating out second-place York in the UK which had a 2.52 second average viewing time. There are 30 cities on the list.

“The city’s colonial architecture takes on a nostalgic quality when covered in snow, while the Freedom Trail becomes a magical walking route,” wrote Premier about Boston. “Boston Common and the Public Garden transform into winter wonderlands, and the Museum of Fine Arts offers warm halls filled with world-class art.”

The other U.S. cities that made the list: New York City at No. 8; Salt Lake City at No. 15; Washington, D.C. at No. 26; and Aspen at No. 27.
