Help us create a list of some of the most memorable sports moments to come out of Titletown this year.
Stepping into a New Year always presents the opportunity to reflect – and Boston sports fans have a great deal to look back on (and laugh about) from 2024.
From historic wins, hilarious and controversial advertising campaigns, and overall stunning athleticism and talent, it is safe to say that this year was pretty good for local sports fans.
The Celtics beat the Dallas Mavericks in game five of the championship finals, earning the team their 18th championship win. This put the Celtics at the top of yet another record for most NBA championships won, beating out the Los Angeles Lakers in their long-standing tie.
There has also been a strong connection between the Patriots and University of North Carolina this year, as UNC’S star quarterback Drake Maye was the third overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft to the Pats. Maye is expected to be the quarterback of the future.
While Maye came North, former coach Bill Belichick is headed South as UNC football’s new head coach. The six-time Super Bowl winning coach will lead the Tar Heels for the next five years.
Boston still had its moment during the Super Bowl with Dunkin’s star-studded “DunKings” commercial featuring local legends Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, and Tom Brady.
In more controversial news, BOS Nation FC came under fire for its messaging following the announcement of the team’s official name earlier this year, launching the tagline: “There are too many balls in this town.” What was meant to be a tongue-in-cheek reference to Boston’s male-dominated sports scene resulted in backlash from players around the league, fans, and LGBTQIA+ activists, unfortunately overshadowing the anticipated announcement.
Whatever your favorite sports moment from the year, whether it was celebratory, funny, or anything in between, we want to hear about it.
